Tell Your Story

Throughout history, storytelling has motivated millions, built empires and altered lives.

In politics, the ability to tell stories separates winners from losers.

I can help you define and craft an authentic story

Drawing on the writings of great storytellers throughout history I have analysed styles and stories, filtering them through the lenses of modern thinkers like Joseph Campbell in ‘The Hero’s Journey’ and Christopher Booker in ‘Seven Basic Plots’, to create simple guidelines for successful storytelling.

Drawing Doubles Recall,
a great way of enhancing memory.

Drawing Doubles Recall,
a great way of enhancing memory.

Hutch tries to take a sketchbook wherever he goes, he calls it travelling with his pencil. It’s a different way to see the world. By sitting down and taking in details, he doesn’t just look, he sees! He often feels a sense of admiration by getting inside of the mind of an architect, a builder or a stonemason, admiring their craftsmanship or ingenuity.

This notion is supported by research conducted at Waterloo University, Toronto in recent years. It indicates that the ability to draw can double recall. Drawing is proved to be a better technique than note-taking or memorising swathes of words.  Our individual ability to sketch may vary, but even using stick figures can do the trick.

Hutch can hardly recall any of the 5000 or so photos stored in his smart phone, but he can redraw from memory almost any of the few hundred in his sketchbooks. For anyone with an interest in to improving memory, he suggests learning to draw.  There are plenty of private drawing classes or online tools available. If nothing else, it’s fun! Call Hutch if you need suggestions
